Care Innovation to Create New Businesses #2: Supporting the Super-Aging Society with Technology

Project CHANGE” is a project that aims to create new businesses in response to the challenges of a super-aging society. The project, which is led by the Nano-Medical Innovation Center (iCONM) of the Kawasaki City Foundation for Industrial Advancement, focuses on the “nursing field. However, technological innovation tends to lag behind due to the stereotype that nursing is something that relies on manpower and experience. The project will transform the nursing field into a growth industry by integrating engineering from the viewpoint of the field and by attracting companies to the field. We interviewed Dr. Yukihiro Kanda (iCONM researcher), who worked closely with the nursing field at a hospital to explore what is needed from the perspective of an engineering researcher, and Ms. Kaoru Shinoyama (Director of Nursing, Kawasaki City Ida Hospital), who conceived of and led the shadowing process.
